  • Are you cooped up in your comfort zone?
  • Are you playing it safe?
  • What are you already doing on a daily basis?
  • What are you not doing that could explode your business?

These are great questions to think about.  It’s so easy to keep doing what we’re doing.  It usually means we avoid potential criticism or rejection…so we do nothing and stay cooped up in our comfort zone.  As women it’s important for us to understand and truly believe if someone says no…it’s not about us!  It just means:  no, not right now or no, I don’t know enough to say yes. Do something today that will change your business…escape the coop, ignore the poop and soar to the top!

Women WalkingOn February 2, Lauren Book a survivor of childhood sexual abuse is visiting the Women’s Center. This is Laura’s third year bringing awareness to Childhood Abuse.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services revealed that over 3 million reports of child abuse are made every year in the United States; however, those reports can include multiple children. In 2009, approximately 3.3 million child abuse reports and allegations were made involving an estimated 6 million children.

If anyone is interested in participating, the Women’s Center is looking for walkers. Lauren will begin her walk from the Hilton Rialto in Melbourne at 9am and will visit the Center for a meet & greet, hand out tee-shirts & bracelets. If you are unable to walk all are welcome to come and welcome Lauren and her team at the center. For additional questions please contact Jackie-victim advocate at 242-3110.

Arbonne Ultimate FacialThe colder weather of winter is here and the change in seasons affects our skin in many ways. After months in the sun and heat, many of us are experiencing dehydration and dryness from all the outdoor activities as well as the dryness of winter heating.

To help revive your skin and get ready for winter, consider a deep exfoliating facial. After exfoliation, the skin is able to accept nutrients that will help balance summer damage. Vitamin C is a great healing and brightening ingredient, ideal for nourishing over-exposed summer skin.

With the colder temperatures and dry heat, our skin has a hard time adjusting. Some may feel dry in the morning and oily by noon or have more breakouts. All are signs of “confused” skin. When the skin becomes dehydrated, the oil glands start to over-compensate which leads to many skin challenges.

Many people find that they need different skincare products depending on the time of year. The moisturizer that got you through summer may not be enough in the winter. A hydrating toner is a great way to supply the skin with more moisture. Masks and spot treatments can also address the need for extra care.

Have you heard about the Ultimate Facial?  This is a $150 service that is currently offered at a spa in California (using Arbonne products)…and I’m offering it to my clients and friends.

Arbonne is all about keeping your skin healthy and vibrant without using chemicals and animal by-products.   I promise you will love the way your face feels after the Ultimate Facial.  Invite a few of your friends over and offer them the luxury of an “Ultimate Facial”.  Your skin will thank you…and your friends will, too!

If you book and hold a workshop with three friends on one of the dates listed, I’ll give you a $25 Gift Certificate; plus you can earn free products, too!

Currently I have the following dates available:

Tuesday, Jan. 24th
Wednesday, Jan. 25th
Tuesday Jan. 31st
Wednesday, Feb. 1st

Thursday Feb. 9th

You deserve it…your skin requires it!

Financial AdvisorGuest post by Elaina Garvin

Sherri O is a long time acquaintance and has become a great friend and inspiration in pulling people especially women for a cause. I enjoy her energy on projects and she has such a following in all she touches. “go big or go home” as Sherri puts it is many times my thought but now it’s on the table as a motto.

As a Financial Advisor for a large firm, I feel it is extremely important for women to be self sufficient and understand how to plan for their financial future. I mention to all my clients that money and their health are two very important things in life and should not be handled lightly. Women are the best shoppers and also make great investors. Be a great consumer and buy on sale even in the stock market. Plan for emergencies and for your family.

I support women’s organizations because i feel that many women do not realize how much they do or can do. If they have a core group or people they can turn to they will have the confidence to accomplish so many things.

Women have the ability to do many things. The power of motivation and encouragement helps make goals attainable, girlfriends stick together and have the ability to set aside competition to move forward and support each other.

Woman Eating Healthy SaladGuest Post by Tita Nieves

Developing awareness of what we eat can help us stay healthy and keep our weight in check.  Many times we eat foods that do not sit well with us as soon as we put them in our mouth.  And even though we notice it, we continue eating it.  Did you know that this could be your body giving you a signal that this is not good for you?  The food could have toxins, or simply your body has no tolerance for it.  What does this mean?

Our bodies are made differently; there are no two of us alike.  Therefore, every one of us has a different response to what we eat, different metabolism, different way of assimilating and absorbing nutrients and food.  When we become more aware of the response our body is giving, we can prevent many health issues from arising.

When we eat foods that the body does not tolerate or is allergic to, the immune system weakens, and the risk for dis-ease develops.

Most of the food available in supermarkets (unless it is organic or free of pesticides), is processed to the point of having limited nutritional value and most likely has had chemicals added to preserve it.  The human body does not recognize foods that are not “real or alive”.  These chemicals can change the makeup of your tissue as they adhere to the cells, and your body in an attempt to deal with it might create a reaction that may turn against itself.

You can begin this process by becoming aware of the subtleties in your tongue, lips and cheeks when you put food in your mouth. Next be aware as the food travels down the esophagus into your stomach and then the time it takes to digest.  There are times that we feel that the food travels down to our stomach slower, or that it sits in our stomach for hours.  These could be signs that your body is reacting to something you ate.

Another important thing to remember is to chew the food thoroughly before swallowing and do the best you can to avoid drinking liquids while you are eating.  If you can’t help it, then only drink water.  Avoid sodas or caffeinated drinks.  Chew your food thoroughly so that you  activate the enzymes that are housed in the saliva and this helps in breaking down the food for digestion and in the assimilation of nutrients.  If we don’t use these enzymes, we lose them!

Enzymes assist the body’s immune system and help you remain strong, retain less fat and fluids.  This will keep you slim and healthy!

I suggest reading about the blood types and about enzymes.  Two books I highly recommend are “Eat Right 4 Your Type” by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo and “The Enzyme Factor” by Dr. Hiromi Shinya, MD.

As a gift to those of you who are interested in this information and other topics related to living and staying healthy, I will give a presentation at no cost to you or your organization.

Yours in health!

gift givingChristmas is just around the corner, you know what that means! The season is full of excitement, lights, carolers, and non-stop togetherness. But there are some people who are less fortunate with no families, no homes, and definitely no presents. This holiday season participate in the season of giving. You can help out and spread some holiday joy by giving back to your community. No matter how big or small, good things follow those who have a joyous and giving spirit. So why not spread the happiness today? Here is a list of things you can do this Christmas season to give back.

1. Donate to a charity. You can either write a check or simply go shopping for a needy child. Either way you can put your money to a good cause. There are many areas where you can call and ask for a list of gifts to buy such as gloves or mittens. Another option is looking for the big green Christmas tree. All over the metro areas there are trees covered in letters from less fortunate families. Give them a Christmas to remember and donate a gift to a family in need this year.

2. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Many homeless people are fighting for survival with not enough food or shelter to keep warm. Contact your local church or community center and serve dinner to the needy this season. There is nothing more rewarding than giving to those less fortunate.

3. Participate in random acts of kindness. This can include anything from giving a dollar or two to somebody without a home or donating a pie to your favorite homeless shelter. You can turn everyday occurrences into tiny acts of giving. All you have to do is give a little piece of yourself to somebody. If that be through song, through presents, through words, whatever it takes. You don’t have to be rich or well-off; you just need to have a heart.

4. Make some clothes for the homeless. If you are good at crafts and sewing Christmas is the best time to do so. Make some gloves or hats for those in need. It’s chilly out there and a lot of people need them. If you don’t happen to saw you can always donate your old winter clothes to a shelter. In this white, snowy Christmas we all need a little shelter from the storm.

All it takes is a little bit of time and caring on your part. Donate a portable easel to a young artist in foster care, give money to your favorite charity, or cook for the hungry. Christmas time is the season for giving so dig deep into your heart and give a little hope to someone in need. Good things come to those who do good deeds.

Many of us have a generous heart during the holidays, but don’t stop there.  Why not help all year long?  Your group or organization can adopt a family in transitional housing for a year. By adopting a family, you help provide for their opportunity to become self-sufficient and live independent lives.  Adopting a family would include car repair, back to school supplies, birthday presents and many other opportunities.

If you are a member of a Rotary Club, women’s group, church group or any other organization that is looking for an opportunity to help your community, please give the Women’s Center a call at:  321.242.3110.

Success WomanSuccessful women in business have well-defined daily success habits. These habits have unconsciously become part of their daily routine and seem to be a major factor in business success. Here are ten daily habits successful businesswomen seem to share in common:

1. Successful women in business set goals. They have long term, short term and daily goals. They know what they want to achieve, why they want to achieve it and how they’re going to make their goals reality.

2. Smart businesswomen have a carefully written plan of action. A goal is just a dream without a written plan. Successful women know what they want to accomplish each day, week, month, year and even five years from now. This plan of action is a well thought out blueprint for the future.

3. Goal achieving begins one small step at a time. Successful women have daily to-do lists. They know how to break their plan of action into bite-sized pieces. These workable bite-sized pieces turn into daily lists of activities that take them closer toward their goals.

4. A common trait among all profitable business owners is that they know how to keep the important things important. Success-oriented women are not easily distracted from achieving their goals. Their daily to-do lists are prioritized, making sure the important moneymaking activities are accomplished first.

5. Visualizing the future as if it were already reality is a powerful success tool. Successful women in business see their future as fulfilling and productive. Profitable entrepreneurs talk about the future with optimism and confidence.

6. Successful women manage time wisely. Women who own moneymaking businesses are in control of their time and don’t allow time to control them.

7. Happy entrepreneurs know when to rest, relax and rejuvenate. All work and no play leads to emotional and physical burnout. It’s important to take physical and mental health breaks during the workday.

8. You can’t enjoy success if you aren’t healthy in mind, body and spirit. Successful women know it is important to eat healthy. A bag of chips and a soda is not a power lunch! Meditating, visualizing and affirming all seem to be part of the successful woman’s daily routine.

9. Breathe! Smart businesswomen know what they can change and know how to make peace with what they cannot.

10. Finally, one of the most powerful success habits is to regularly make time to sit back and appreciate your accomplishments. Successful women in business celebrate their victories, both the small and the large ones. Here’s success tip: Enjoy your accomplishments because the more you appreciate, acknowledge and enjoy your day-to-day successes, the more successes you’ll have to enjoy!

Holiday Gift GivingThe holidays are a crazy busy time. Between the baking and cooking, the holiday parties, the pageants, the traveling, the decorating, and the corresponding, you have to somehow find and wrap a heartfelt gift for your kids, spouse, parents, relatives and friends.

Even if you have made a commitment to spend less on gifts this year, you still want to give something meaningful. The worst part is, you want to enjoy the holidays, but you worry that it’s going to whiz by while you were feeling frazzled and desperate.

If this describes you, here are a few tips to help you take some of the stress out of your holiday shopping so you can once again enjoy this magical time of year.

1. Start early. Like now. When you shop for your holiday gifts early, you have more time to look at the options, plus the stores will have a larger selection of those hot toys. You’ll also be spreading out the expense over a longer period of time. And you’re likely to save some money because you’ll have time to check out the deals, both online and off – and to wait for a coupon code, if necessary. If you are shipping any of your presents, you’ll be able to relax if the buying is already finished by Thanksgiving time. Then, when everyone is frantically rushing to the mall and throwing elbows for the last cashmere sweater, you can sit back, sip a hot peppermint mocha and watch “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

2. Do whatever you need to do to make your shopping trips more fun. Take along a good friend or two, and you might have so much fun you’ll want to make a ritual of going holiday shopping together every year. To really cut the stress, take a day off in the middle of the week together and hit your favorite shopping centers then, where you won’t have to compete with so many crowds (especially if you skipped Tip 1, and it’s December already.)

3. Keep a list, throughout the year, of gift ideas for your friends and family. Jot down cute little things you see that relate to their interests. It’s so much easier if you don’t have to start from scratch in the mall, while you stare at the stack of George Foreman grills and waffle makers.

4. Change your scenery. If big malls bum you out with their over-emphasis on the commercialization of Christmas, plan a weekend getaway to a small town, where they celebrate the holidays in old-fashioned style. Is there a small village or ski town in your area where they have carolers strolling the street in the evenings? Where they light the outdoor trees and where they always wrap the gifts for you, while you chat leisurely with the shop owners? Find such a place and you’ll be whistling carols yourself as you weave your way in and out of boutiques, sipping cider or hot cocoa. Being part of an old-fashioned Christmas can really help you get in the holiday spirit. You might have so much fun that you’ll make it an annual tradition.

5. Think unique – not big ticket. Instead of trying to bowl someone over with the enormity of your gift, find something that is unique and just right for them. It is often these small and thoughtful gifts that are the most memorable. Of course, you’ll need to start early to have any chance of finding this just-right gift, but gift-giving will be so much more enjoyable when you make a game of finding just the right item for each recipient, rather than just another thing to cross off your crowded to-do list.

6. Shop online. The internet has an array of interesting gift stores and catalogs that feature items you’d be hard-pressed to find in stores. Arbonne has a wide selection of gifts which are perfect for that special someone.  Call or email me to take advantage of “Black Friday with Arbonne”.  When you order $125 retail, you get $125 in FREE products (shipping and tax on total retail value).  This offer is valid through November 28th, 2011.  We have gifts for everyone and you, too…now is a good time to stock up on all your favorites!!!
